The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations (UN). It was established in June 1945 by the Charter of the United Nations and began work in April 1946. The Court’s role is to settle, in accordance with international law, legal disputes submitted to it by States and to give advisory opinions on legal questions referred to it by authorized United Nations organs and specialized agencies.

Bibliography of the International Court of Justice
The Registry of the Court usually prepares a bibliography of work and documents that relate to the institution and that were collected during the previous year. Bibliographies Nos. 1-18 formed Chapter IX of the Yearbook and the Annuaire up to the 1963-1964 edition. Subsequent bibliographies were issued as separate fascicles between 1964 and 2003. Starting with Bibliography No. 58, they are published digitally.

Acts and Documents Concerning the Organization of the Court
This series contains the basic documents governing the role and functioning of the International Court of Justice, as adopted and amended since the Court’s creation, including the Charter of the United Nations, the Statute of the Court, the Rules of Court, Practice Directions, the Resolution concerning the Internal Judicial Practice of the Court and a number of other texts. Seven bilingual editions (English and French) have been published since 1946, the latest being in 2021. These volumes also include exhaustive indexes in both official languages of the Court.

Annuaire de la Cour Internationale de Justice
Un Annuaire est publié chaque année dans lequel est rendu compte des travaux de la Cour pendant la période allant du 1er août de l'année précédente au 31 juillet de l'année en cours. Cette publication, auparavant produite en deux éditions, une en anglais (Yearbook) et une en français (Annuaire), est maintenant publiée en un seul volume bilingue. Les Yearbooks/Annuaires ont été publiés sous forme cartonnée jusqu'en 1963-1964 et ont été imprimés en relié depuis lors.

Pleadings, Oral Arguments, Documents
Volumes in this series are published as soon as possible after the closure of each case and contain the documentation that relates to that case in its original language, which is either English or French. These are divided into three parts. Firstly, the document instituting the proceedings and the written pleadings. Secondly, the verbatim record of the oral proceedings. And thirdly, any documents submitted to the Court after the closure of the written proceedings. One or more volumes are issued for each case. Note that volumes that were released up to 31 December 1964 (Sales No. 286) are sold in cloth hardbound form whereas subsequent volumes are paperbound.

Reports of Judgments, Advisory Opinions and Orders
This series contains the reports of the decisions of the Court in both English and French. Each decision is published separately immediately after having been rendered in an unbound format. At the end of the year these separate decisions are collected in one single volume. At the beginning of each following year an analytical index is published concerning the previous year’s decisions. The collected decisions, complete with an index for each given year are sold ready bound in one or more cloth hardbound volume(s). Note that concerning decisions that relate to any particular case it will generally be necessary to refer to several volumes.

Reports of the International Court of Justice
Every year the Court submits a report on its activities to the United Nations General Assembly. The Report covers the period from 1 August of one year to 31 July of the next. It generally includes an introductory summary and information relating to the organization, jurisdiction and judicial work of the Court, visits, events and lectures, the Court’s publications and documents, and administrative and budgetary issues.

Yearbook of the International Court of Justice
A Yearbook is published annually in which an account is given of the work of the Court during the period ranging from 1 August of the preceding year to 31 July of the current year. This publication, previously produced in two editions, one in English (Yearbook) and one in French (Annuaire), is now published in a single bilingual volume. The Yearbooks/Annuaires were published in cloth hardbound form until 1963-1964 and have been printed paperbound since then.
