Preface

This is the forty-second issue of the United Nations Statistical Yearbook, prepared by the Statistics Division, Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat, since 1948. The present issue contains series covering, in general, 1985-1994 or 1986-1995, using statistics available to the Statistics Division up to 30 June 1997.
